Tailored Hermi solutions for the technical complexity of Pical Resort 5*
Poreč, Croatia
Pical Resort, Valamar Collection 5*, in Poreč is considered one of the major tourism projects in Croatia in recent years.
As part of a EUR 200 million investment setting new standards in premium tourism, Hermi lightning protection solutions were used for the technically demanding and architecturally diverse complex, while the Hermi Multi Flat mounting system was selected for the solar power plant on the roofs of the buildings.
Almost 5 kilometres of Hermi lightning conductors were installed as part of the lightning protection system. Due to the different roof types, parapets, metal elements and other architectural details, the protection system had to be adapted to individual parts of the buildings. Various, contact elements, air-termination rods, wall inspection boxes and insulated lightning conductors were used.

Lightning protection for an architecturally diverse resort
Fasteners and air-termination rods for different roof surfaces
Various SON17 lightning conductor fasteners (117220, 117235, 117227, 41) were used on the flat roof sections, almost 3,000 in total. Among them were approximately 2,000 SON17 BB fasteners, which are prefilled with concrete and suitable for round lightning conductors with a diameter of 8–10 mm. The selection of each version was adapted to the type of roof surface: the SON17 C fastener is suitable for flat roofs covered with gravel, polymer membrane or granule-surfaced bituminous membrane, while the SON17 A fastener is intended for polymer-based roof coverings.

SON04 A fasteners (429) were used for fastening to parapets with sheet-metal capping. On sheet-metal, fibre cement and other roof coverings, more than 200 SON16 ridge fasteners were also installed, allowing round lightning conductors to be fixed using a single (11621) or double click system (11631).
A total of 40 LOP air-termination rods of different heights (300502, 300503, 300504, 300505) were installed on the roofs of the buildings. LOP-PB1/M8 and LOP-PB2/M16 concrete bases were used for their installation, together with PBP350 protective pads. Air-termination rods are part of the external lightning protection system and are designed to protect exposed parts of the buildings and technical equipment on the roofs.

Down-conductor system and connections
Various ZON03 wall fasteners (22322, 20322, 203251) were selected according to the intended use for fixing lightning conductors to the walls. Almost 800 wall fasteners were used in total, enabling orderly and stable routing of the conductors along the vertical surfaces of the buildings.
Wall-mounted test joint boxes were also included in the system to provide access to the test joint between the lightning down conductor and the earthing system. Among the solutions used was the ZON05 B wall-mounted test joint box (900907), designed to allow stone cladding to be bonded to the cover, enabling better integration into the architectural appearance of the tourism complex.
KON contact elements were used to connect parts of the lightning protection installation and various metal elements of the building. Almost 1,700 contact elements were installed in total, most of them KON04 A clamps (50522), designed for connections between round lightning conductors with a diameter of 8–10 mm. In addition, 700 KON11 A pipe clamps (700290) were used to earth smaller-diameter metal pipes.

The Multi Flat system is a modular mounting solution for installation on flat roofs in south-facing and east-west orientations.
Hermi Multi Flat for solar power on the resort roofs
In addition to lightning protection, the Hermi Multi Flat mounting system was used for the solar power plant on the roofs of the resort. More than 1,000 aluminium SOL-N41 front fasteners (88000821) and the same number of SOL-N42 back fasteners (88000822) were installed, suitable for south-facing and east-west photovoltaic module layouts.
Almost 2 kilometres of SOL-P40 rail profiles (88000800), designed for the Multi Flat solution, and almost 3 kilometres of SOL-P10 construction L-profiles (88000102) were used for the solar power plant structure to provide additional reinforcement of the mounting systems. The photovoltaic modules were fixed with SOL-S02B HEX end clamps (88000326) and SOL-S01C middle click clamps (88000661).

Reliable protection and on-site renewable energy
In large tourism complexes, technical infrastructure often remains in the background, yet it is essential for safe and uninterrupted operation. At Pical Resort, Hermi solutions combine protection against lightning strikes with support for on-site renewable energy generation.
The lightning protection system protects the buildings, equipment and users from the effects of lightning strikes, while the Hermi Multi Flat mounting system provides a stable basis for the solar power plant, enabling the tourism complex to cover part of its energy needs with self-generated renewable energy.
